Covenant Groups at KUUC
What are Covenant Groups?
Covenant Groups (also know as small group ministry) are a network of small groups within our church community. They provide adult members and friends of KUUC a place to build and nurture deeper relationships. This will in turn strengthen the congregation as each group of 6-10 people ministers to one another.
Why would I join a Covenant Group at KUUC?
Many of us cherish time for quiet reflection in addition to our wonderful Sunday morning services, yet we don’t always make the time for it in our busy lives.
By joining a Covenant Group, we give ourselves the gift of time for more intense reflection and communication with others.
Covenant Groups also help develop lay leadership and deepen our understanding of Unitarian Universalism principles and values.

Tell me more about these Covenant Groups!
The primary purposes of Covenant Groups are to minister to one another, to encourage spiritual growth, and to affirm and accept all members.
People came to our church seeking community. By creating an open, supportive, and nurturing environment, Covenant Groups promote and facilitate spiritual growth and provide a depth of community for which people at KUUC have expressed a hunger.
Each group will develop a covenant, an agreement as to how members will be in relationships with one another, with the greater community.
What is the format of a Covenant Group?
Covenant Groups follow consistent format. Each group begins with a candle or chalice lighting, a reading or music from a UU source, and silence. A check in, taking up to an hour, allows us to listen and learn about each other, our joys and concerns and “what’s on top.”
A topic/question is shared and discussed. A “check-out” allows us to speak about what stays with us, what we liked, what we didn’t like about the gathering. The sessions end with a closing, which includes a final reading and extinguishing the candle or chalice.
How often will we meet?
Each group will meet twice a month for two hours, usually at the home of one of the members.
