"Saucers, UFO's and Other Chariots of Fire"

I want to begin by thanking Gene Mellish for the extraordinary experience thinking about and writing this sermon has been for me. It was Gene who gave good money to KUUC for the offer I made of writing a sermon on any subject of the buyer’s wish. I pray this effort may be worthy of Gene’s investment.

Gene gave me a copy of his book, UFO’s and The Origin of Man,” and said, more or less, write on this. In his book, Gene offers synopses of 13 authors of books on UFOs and theories of extraterrestrial life. Then he offers his own summary of the evidence these books offer, and his conclusions.

"Inconvenient Truths and Blessings"

We’re all very grateful to the snake. And we all keep score. It’s the most toys gene in us all. What is it we count? How many beautiful things we own? How much money we have in the bank? How much a tank of gas costs now, and may cost tomorrow? 

I have to say I went through a very depressed stage while working on what I needed to say this morning. Along with the cost of heating my house through this first New Hampshire winter, I was counting Al Gore’s inconvenient truths.

"Roll Away The Stones"

This morning I chose to read the story of the Resurrection from the Book of Mark. I could have chosen Matthew or Luke or John. They all say the stone was rolled away from the tomb…by angel or earthquake or just plain gone. And not just the stone was gone, but so was Jesus, at least as those who loved him had known him before he died. Jesus had died, crucified on a cross like a common thief, and had risen again. The ancient story is told over and over at this time of year. To many committed Christians the story is literally true; a sign of God’s love and redemption. Read more...
